Editorial Guidelines for what's on athy

The guidlines for submitting editorial material to the magazine is similar to that relating to submission of Diary entries, with a few additional elements.

There is a greater chance of having your diary entries included if you submit your information in the correct way.

The magazine is sent to print on the last Thursday of the month. The earlier it is submitted the greater the chance that it will appear in the magazine.

GOLDEN RULES

If it's boring it will never make it.

If its just an advertisement for your business than contact the advertising department.

DO USE 'Word' or 'Open Office' to write your piece.

DO NOT USE PUBLISHER, PAINT or any other design programmes.

Save your file as the date backwards (for example the 14th July 2011 is 110714), plus the name of the article.

DO submit the text file as an attachment to an email.

DO put the name of the article in the 'Subject' field of the email.

DO submit each illustration as a seperate file

DO NOT WRITE ANY OF THE PIECE IN CAPITAL LETTERS AS WE DO NOT HAVE THE TIME TO RE-TYPE IT, AND AS A RESULT, IT WILL NOT APPEAR.

How to write the perfect piece for publication.

Write short sentences.

Keep paragraphs brief, with no more than a few sentences.

Start with a paragraph that states in brief what the piece is about

For most pieces three to five paragraphs should cover the

Finally a paragraph that summarises the information people need to participate.
